This impressive estate sits on 3.7 acres of Costa Rican paradise, and was custom built to take advantage of the beautiful surroundings while still having every comfort. It enjoys views of the majestic volcano, the tranquil lake complete with wind turbines on the horizon, rolling pasture lands, and the lush rainforest canopy. The estate is comprised of the main house, two guest houses, a 4 car garage, workshop, extra garage for storage, a second two-story storage bodega a custom-built pool, water slide, and a jacuzzi with a wood burning heater / sauna. The houses are modern Bali-style architecture- a gorgeous combination of steel and sharp angles with natural stone and wood. All three houses are furnished with custom-made furniture and cabinets made from the most beautiful local hardwoods. The entry gate is electric sliding metal panels with recessed columns. Inside the lighted columns are tribal guard statues. The entire driveway is inlaid with pavers. The main house is an entertainer's dream. The vast front deck overlooks Lake Arenal below, and spans the entire length of the principal section of the home. It is from here that the most breathtaking sunsets can be observed daily. The deck is covered by a vaulted, tongue-and-groove roof, with ceiling fans and recessed lighting. Grill a delicious meal or make homemade pizza in the wood burning oven in the fully equipped outdoor kitchen. The deck and the interior of the main house are separated by sliding glass doors that open the length of the room, giving the feel that the deck is an extension of the great room. Adding to the roomy feel is the forty feet high vaulted ceiling, again with fans and recessed LED lighting, as well as wooden slots and metal rafters for design accent. The vast living room and dining area enjoy a view to a projector screen and 7 way atmos surround system, where residents can watch films, just like at the movies. The final portion of the great room is the gorgeous chef's kitchen. The countertops are made of a creamy quartz which perfectly accents the multi-colored natural stone backsplash on the walls and island. The over-sized kitchen island has a breakfast bar overlooking the GE Monogram 6-burner gas cook top. To either side of the range are pull-out racks/drawers for easy access to spices and oils while whipping up a gourmet feast. For the baker, there is a GE Profile single wall oven, topped by a convection wall oven and microwave combo of the same brand. The GE Profile refrigerator is double door. While the extra-deep, single bowl kitchen sink with an industrial style faucet and garbage disposer makes cleaning a breeze, you can save time with the GE Profile dishwasher. The gorgeous hand-crafted cabinets made from cenizaro hardwood provide more space for storage that anyone could dream of using for dishes and appliances. To the side of the kitchen through swinging doors is an immense pantry with shelving made of cenizaro hardwood, that reaches all the way to the vaulted ceiling. The higher shelves can be reached with a library-style ladder. Beyond the pantry is the laundry room with GE front-loading washer and dryer. Beyond the dining room is a bedroom (currently used as a gym) with sliding glass doors that lead out onto the main deck. Down the hallway there is another small room that is ideal for an office. Adjacent to the office is an absolute wonder! Called "The Cave", this tropical-style extra large bathroom is amazing. The ceilings are made of bamboo, with recessed dim-switch lighting. The walls are hand-formed and hand-painted faux stone textured, hence the name "Cave". Also faux formed to look like stone are the walls of a wide bathtub with mosaic tile-basin. The most impressive feature is the waterfall shower - the water splashes over when the basin above is filled. There are built-in planters all around the perimeter of the room to grow lush green tropical plants. The windows literally go from corner to corner, again to give the out-door feel and a view of the volcano. To the other side of the kitchen is the garden/stairway room. It is an impressive space that connects the main house with the split-level bedrooms. The extra wide stairs are formed and stained concrete, bordered by railings made from steel tubing and hardwood, matching the Bali-style theme. Both sides of the room have massive widows to take full advantage of the volcano view to the east and the lake to the west. Planters with a built-in watering system line the wall, perfect for growing draping plants. At the bottom of the stairs the ground was left natural, again for growing plants and trees and tying in nature with architecture. The stairway leads below to one of the main bedroom suites. The large room includes a walk-in closet, tongue-and-groove ceiling, recessed lighting, and windows all around to take advantage of the spectacular views. The full bathroom boasts an over-sized mosaic tiled bathtub and walls made from ivory-colored, polished natural stone. The sliding glass doors lead out to a private balcony over-looking the rainforest canopy. This balcony also can be reached from the main deck by a ramp inlaid with natural stone. Directly above the bottom suite is the master suite with the same layout. The ceilings are vaulted tongue-and-groove. The master bath includes a walk-in, oversized rainfall shower and floor of polished river rock and faux-stone planter. The vanity has double vessel sinks and marble countertop. Toilet and bidet. Again, the suite has its own private balcony overlooking the canopy and lake, with a ramp leading up from the main deck. The main house and guest houses are separated by a completely covered driveway, ideal for rainy weather. The bottom floor of the guest houses is the 4-car garage and workshop. The second story of the buildings are the guest houses. Their ceilings are vaulted and 20 feet high. In the first house Casa Panorama, there are two bedrooms, one with a queen-size bunk bed with steps, not a ladder with views of the lake and mountains, the other with a queen bed and views of the back garden and volcano. The bathroom has an oversized slate shower and double vanity. The kitchen is fully-equipped with exotic granite counters and new appliances. The living room has an oversized double sliding glass door which opens wide, again to give the sensation that the deck and the living room are one in the same. Without a doubt, the best feature of the guest house is the exotic wood bench and bar that runs along the entire length of the covered deck. Guests can sit and dangle their feet in the air with a drink or meal, and take in the majestic views below. The second guest house Casa Treetop also has great lake views, but it’s a bit more nestled into the tall, bromeliad-covered trees. It is a bird watcher’s delight, and guests feel like they are in a tree house. Again a fully equipped kitchen with granite counters and natural stone backsplash. The two bedrooms look out into the trees and the lake beyond. One has queen size bunk beds, again made from local hardwoods, with steps, not a ladder, going to the top bunk. The other has a full-size bed. The bathroom has a natural stone walk-in shower and granite vanity. To reach this house, there is a ramp rather than stairs. Between the two guest houses is a 3-foot breezeway with a communal washer/dryer. There is another small bench overlooking the lake there too, in case guests want to sit and read while doing laundry. It is accessible only from within the houses, not from the balcony entrances. The property is only a 15-minute drive to do some spelunking in the Venado Caves. La Fortuna is 45 minutes away where you can visit natural hot springs, go canopy ziplining, horseback riding, four-wheeling, visit the snake and reptile zoo, indulge in a spa treatment and do some souvenir shopping. Other day trips will take you to magical waterfalls or the crystal-clear blue water of Rio Celeste. The entire area around Lake Arenal is a cyclist’s heaven, with excellent roads and trails to navigate. It is a perfect place to connect with nature where one can enjoy the marvels of all the local wildlife right at their doorstep. The call of the 'congos' swinging through the trees, gigantic toads, a myriad of brightly colored insects and butterflies, bromeliads growing all over the trees, exotic flowers. Bird watchers will be in heaven here in overlooking the treetops at the toucans, hawks, vultures, hummingbirds, parrots and more. The house is located in a spacious gated community 10 kilometers up the mountain on a country dirt road from the town of Nuevo Arenal. The gated development is secluded, yet still close to town and all the local amenities. Being higher in elevation, you will always enjoy a fresher, crisper, breezier climate than 'down the mountain'- between 5-10 degrees difference on average. Unlike many beach areas in Costa Rica where it is always the same weather-hot and humid- here you can experience a refreshing mix of sunshine and heat with rain, clouds, mist, and cooler weather. The quiet town of Nuevo Arenal has three grocery stores, a bank with an ATM, a pharmacy, gift shops, a gas station, a fruit market and several bars and restaurants. The guest house is also well-established as a vacation rental and has exceptional reviews:
